BERAN, Mary ----- The death
of Mrs. Mary Beran of Gibbon occurred last week under
sad circumstances. On Sunday her son, August, who is
employed at the Wm. Dahlgren farm
came to town to stay with his mother over Sunday and
attended to her wants as has been his usual custom, but
upon entering her room found her in bed dead and her
body frozen. When and how she died is not definitely
known, but neighbors had seen her last on Wednesday and
it is therefore supposed that she died on Friday. She
was subject to fits of epilepsy and it is thought that
this may have caused her death or rendered her unable to
attend to her wants so that she may have frozen to
death. Deputy Coroner Dr. W. Z. Flower examined
her but could find no definite evidence of how her death
came about. Maria Meyer was born in Germany on February
17th, 1850 and was 66 years, 11 months and 13 days old
at the time of her death. She came to this country in
1882 and was married to Mathias Beran at New Ulm in
1883, her husband then having a farm in Severance
township. Mr. Beran died in 1897 and Mrs. Beran
continued to live on the farm until 1904 when she moved
to Gibbon.
She was mother of two sons, one of whom died
while an infant leaving only her son, August, to mourn
her. As far as is known she has three brothers still
living in Germany. The funeral was held Tuesday
fore-noon and burial was made at the German Lutheran
cemetery, Rev. Henry Boettcher officiating.—Gibbon
